Serendipity Rules

The digital camera has made photography so widely accessible that wonderful images can be caught by souls from the age of two to a hundred and two, often totally by chance. Whether they are judged to be of exciting quality depends much on the imagination, experience and education of the observer.

I happily capture odd moments, on film or digitally, and store them up although they may have no value as complete compositions. It sometimes happens that, quite without my thoughtful intrusion, an image arises through a combination of moments.

I like to work to a theme as ideas tend to sprout more easily and give motivation as to what to shoot. Sometimes I enjoy myself using the work of a revered artist as a springboard.

The darkroom is a place where happy accidents give my creativity a boost.
